ChildFund Caribbean and New Beginning Craft Workshop Initiative
Youth Entrepreneurship Training
Unemployment among youth and young adults continue to be an area of national concern. This emerged as one of five priority issues in the process which informed the Area Strategic Plan (ASP) of the West Dominica Children’s Federation, the main implementing partner of ChildFund Dominica.
There is therefore widespread acceptance that increased youth employment and social engagement are urgent priorities within the broader framework of national development.
It is against this background that ChildFund Caribbean in collaboration with New Beginning Craft Workshop presents a skills training program designed to build the technical, business management and human relations skills of its enrolled families. This initial training will focus on the production of leather accessories and targets marginalized youth and young adults resident in the urban communities, bringing them into the legal economic landscape of the country.
This initiative recognizes and values the ongoing social and business skills support provided by agencies like the Youth Development Division (YDD), Dominica Youth Business Trust (DYBT), Junior Achievement Dominica, Lifeline Ministries, Braz Inc. Business Development, Dominica Arts and Craft Producers Association (DACPA), the Dominica Planned Parenthood Association (DPPA), Cooperative Division and the AGANAR Program and will partner with these agencies in the delivery of the training.
