Who we are

The Dominica Youth Business Trust, officially launched in May 2004, is an initiative of the Commonwealth Youth Programme and the Government of the Commonwealth of Dominica. With the support of the Organisation  of the American States and the Caribbean Development Bank, the Dominica Youth Business Trust empowers the youth of Dominica in realizing their potential as entrepreneurs.

What we do

Ranging from training programs geared toward the provision or enhancement of business knowledge and skills to competitions for grants to young entrepreneurs to facilitate the development of their small enterprises, the competencies of the Dominica Youth Business Trust are vast and varied.

Training

We offer training to young entrepreneurs in the form of a 4-week program called the Entrepreneurship Development Program or a 3-day program called the Small Business Assistance Facility with both geared toward enhancing participants’ business knowledge and skill.

Mentorship

Upon completing their training, as an important and integral component of the Dominica Youth Business Trust, entrepreneurs are offered mentors to be advisors in the development and operation of their businesses.

THE HUB

An entrepreneurial support centre providing a range of services to youth entrepreneurs including industry training, networking, Business Advisory, resource videos, business templates, tool rentals, and a directory of entrepreneurs, products and services.  Shared production spaces will also soon be available for agro-processing and art & craft production.

Why we are different

Prior to 2004, there was an abundance of youth with brilliant business ideas seeking opportunities to turn these ideas into businesses. However, with no collateral to apply for loans, they were, quite tragically, left to stagnate and unable to contribute meaningfully to their country’s national economy. For this reason, when the initiative was first launched in 2004, seeking to facilitate young entrepreneurs in their endeavour to turn good ideas into viable businesses, via financial, technical and social assistance, it was the answer to an increasingly vocal prayer. Since then, the Dominica Youth Business Trust has made it its mission to ensure that every youth with sound and viable ideas reaps the benefits and, as such, it has been an active participant in every effort to turn the attention toward youth enterprise as an economy booster.
